24 years after September 11, 2001, we pause to honor the innocent lives lost, the survivors, and the heroes who answered the call to danger. I will #NeverForget them and remain grateful to all who served our nation in its darkest hour.
House Republicans cut renewable energy programs by 47%. Instead of improving the lives of families across America, Republicans are lining the pockets of Big Polluters, increasing energy costs for Americans, and jeopardizing energy independence.
Political violence is never the answer & will never be accepted. I’m thinking of Charlie Kirk, his family, all those who witnessed this traumatic shooting at Utah Valley University, and students of a school shooting in Colorado today. Gun violence affects all of us and it must end.
We must pass a bipartisan bill that supports all service members and their families.    I will not stand for discriminatory riders that hurt those who protect us. This is a matter of collective responsibility. Our heroes deserve better.
Tomorrow, the House will debate SIX Republican amendments to the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act that attack LGBTQI+ servicemembers, DoD employees, and their families. We urge the House to unite against these attacks on our servicemembers and REJECT these amendments!
Republicans are trying to add six anti-LGBTQI+ amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act. REPUBLICAN NDAA AMENDMENTS: TWO HEALTHCARE BANS for transgender people and their families, including banning mental healthcare for servicemembers’ trans children; ASSIGNING CADETS TO TEAMS BASED ON THEIR REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM for women’s sports at U.S. military service academies; CREATING A TRANS BATHROOM BAN at all U.S. military installations; BANNING DATA COLLECTION on troops’ and employees’ gender identities; BANNING THE PRIDE FLAG from all Department of Defense workplaces. President Trump and ICE aim to divide us, but Chicago is a city built on resilience. We will continue to overcome these threats together & grow stronger. 👉Know your rights. 📰Follow trusted news sources. 📹Record any ICE encounters.
Sixty years ago, the Department of Housing and Urban Development was created to help families secure a safe place to call home. That promise is now at risk because President Trump wants to limit rental assistance to 2 years. We must not go backward.
President Trump is crashing our economy. The unemployment rate rose to 4.3%, the highest level since the pandemic. Black Americans are suffering from a 7.5% unemployment rate, exposing our country’s economic injustice and signaling even worse job reports to come.
Last week, Illinois Democrats demanded that President Trump cease his plans for the politically-motivated military deployment in Chicago. This is an unlawful power grab, not a response to an actual emergency.
President Trump straight-up LIED. His lewd birthday note to Jeffrey Epstein demands answers about their "wonderful secret." What else is President Trump hiding? The White House cover-up needs to end. Release the Epstein Files.
🚨🚨HERE IT IS: We got Trump’s birthday note to Jeffrey Epstein that the President said doesn’t exist. Trump talks about a “wonderful secret” the two of them shared. What is he hiding? Release the files!
President Trump is eroding Congress’s powers of spending, oversight, and foreign policy. House Republicans—so-called Constitutional hardliners—are rubber-stamping his actions, more worried about their jobs than standing up for democracy.
On #LiteracyDay, we celebrate the power of reading, but literacy is about more than words—it’s about opportunity. I successfully amended the Every Student Succeeds Act to include adult and financial literacy in 2015, and I continue to improve academic outcomes for all.
Thank you, Javiel, for sharing your strength, your story, and your family’s journey with me. It was wonderful to meet you, Kairo, and Kairo’s dad. Medicaid serves as a lifeline for many families, including yours, and Congress has the responsibility to improve healthcare — not gut it.
A promise made should be kept. But the Big Ugly Law that President Trump passed is doing the opposite of what was promised. It's not lowering costs for families; it's making healthcare, food, and utilities more expensive. This is a clear betrayal of the American people.
This Suicide Prevention Month, it's time to talk about the gun epidemic that is claiming too many lives in America. 58% of suicides are committed using a gun. Through conversations and secure gun storage, we can interrupt access and reduce the number of preventable deaths.
Chicago is a city of neighbors—our diversity is our strength. We will stand together & protect our communities from those who try to divide or harm us. Threatening a US city with military action is unacceptable & I will not tolerate any federal actions that encroach on Chicago’s rights.
"Chicago about to find out why it's called the Department of WAR," the president wrote.
No parent should come home to hungry kids without food because politicians stole their SNAP benefits. That is why I want to take a moment on National Food Bank Day to share my gratitude with the food banks who are giving dignity & food access to millions.🥫🥫
Trump's focus on Chicago is not a genuine effort to reduce violence. He shut down crime prevention programs & proposed a costly National Guard solution. Congress must act to protect communities, not bend the knee to a wannabe king.
President Trump’s tariffs are a tax on working families, especially Illinois farmers, who are facing higher corn and soybean prices. Trump’s trade war is bad for our economy and bad for our national safety. We need a plan that lowers prices for Americans.
