Today, the House lost a fighter for the people of Georgia.
The first Black chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, David Scott’s leadership made him an impassioned voice for making life better and more affordable. I am holding his family, loved ones, staff and community in my prayers.
Watch my full remarks here:
Black women in the United States are three times more likely to die of pregnancy-related complications than white women. Now, federal rollbacks threaten to deepen health inequities.
I anchored a Congressional Black Caucus Special Order Hour to recognize Black Maternal Health Week.
As a state senator, I led the charge to make Virginia the 38th and final state necessary to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.
Now as Co-Chair of the ERA Caucus with @pressley.house.gov, I’m fighting to ensure the ERA is the law of the land.

Happy Earth Day!
Today, I joined @dorismatsui.bsky.social, @neguse.house.gov and @repcohen.bsky.social to introduce an Earth Day Resolution honoring the history of this day while calling out the Trump Administration’s rollbacks of clean energy investment and environmental protections.
President Trump’s war in Iran continues as the tenuous ceasefire deal reached last week unravels, the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked and gas and diesel prices remain high.

Black Maternal Health is a public health crisis.
This Black Maternal Health week we are supporting and uplifting the Momnibus legislation—designed to end preventable maternal health death in America.
It's time to put an end to the maternal health crisis.
The House unanimously passed my bill with Rep. Dunn to reauthorize and strengthen the First Responder Network Authority, which oversees the FirstNet public safety communications network and strengthens first responders’ ability to respond to crises.
Dave and I are devastated for Mark, Lisa and their family and extend our deepest condolences.
The Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans refused to extend the ACA enhanced premium tax credits.
As a result, skyrocketing premiums have forced 33,000 Virginians to drop off their health insurance.
As President Trump’s war of choice drags on in Iran, House Republicans blocked a War Powers Resolution vote in Congress, and the House struggled to extend the soon-to-expire Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
Here’s more of what you may have missed this week.
While you were sleeping, Speaker Johnson tried to rush through a five-year reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act without meaningful reforms to curb warrantless surveillance and strengthen civil liberties protections.
At 2 AM, he failed spectacularly on a bipartisan basis.

House Republicans have once again killed a resolution that would finally put a check on the President's powers and his reckless war with Iran.
Statement from New Dem Leadership.
Congress has the power to end this war by upholding the separation of powers outlined in our Constitution. Instead, Congressional Republicans enable the Trump Administration every step of the way.
I will continue to work to de-escalate the situation and urge my Republican colleagues to do the same.
Again and again, President Trump shows that he would rather fund unnecessary wars than fulfill his campaign promises to lower costs for the American people.
The American people did not ask for this war and oppose a protracted conflict, especially as gas prices skyrocket, increasing by more than 80 cents a gallon in the last month in Richmond. Inflation now sits at a two-year high as consumer prices have increased 3.3% since this time last year.
These escalatory actions have also dramatically reduced our international standing and strained our relationships with our allies.
As a result, we stand to emerge from this crisis less influential than we have ever been in the post-World War II era.
The Trump Administration’s unauthorized use of military force in the Middle East absent an imminent threat has further destabilized the region.
In recent weeks, Trump’s rhetoric, including threatening the death of ‘an entire civilization,’ has only amplified fears for our collective future.
