I recently got to speak with some of the parents, teachers, and students of Onahan Elementary School, a CPS school in my district. Last year, I secured $850,000 in federal funds to build a new artificial turf field for Onahan.
Americans need to know their elected officials are doing what's in the country's best interest, not what's best for their own pocketbooks. I joined my colleagues in demanding that Speaker Johnson and Leader Jeffries ban members of Congress from trading stocks and betting in prediction markets.
Inflation peaked for the first time since 2023. And over the past year, the costs of food has increased by 3.2%, and electricity by 2.6%. And the price of gas? Up 28.4%.
We need to pass policies that work for the American people, not waste their money on tariffs and wars in the Middle East.
The April BLS report is out, and Trump's policies are making everything more expensive for everyone.
It’s National Bike to Work Day! Whether it’s out in Chicago or in the halls of Congress, I always enjoy a chance to take my wheels out.
I’m going to keep protecting bike lanes and bike infrastructure that keeps our cyclists, drivers, and pedestrians safe🚲
I just received a report from the Joint Economic Committee Democrats showing that American small businesses lost 4.5 times MORE jobs in 2025 than they did during the pandemic—all because of Trump's tariffs.
We need this tariff chaos to end so our economy can start to recover.
I support them in their case and hope they receive justice soon. We must hold ICE & CBP accountable to ensure this never happens again.
Residents of the South Shore apartment building that CBP ransacked this fall just submitted a federal tort claim, pressing the federal government for financial compensation. That night, CBP officials broke down doors, zip-tied kids and their parents, and illegally held residents in vans for hours.
I had the honor of meeting Jason at a Chicago House benefit many years ago. Before that I got to watch him play for the Minnesota Timberwolves against our Chicago Bulls. He was always a kind soul and trailblazer.
May he rest in peace.
I want to take a moment to honor NBA player Jason Collins, who passed away earlier this week from cancer. He was the first out gay player not only in the entire NBA, but in any of the 4 major sports leagues.
In Chicagoland, flooding imposes a massive financial burden on homeowners—even a few inches of water can be dangerous.
I'm introducing the Flood Mapping Modernization & Homeowner Empowerment Pilot Program Act with @durbin.senate.gov and @duckworth.senate.gov to help communities prepare for floods.
Joe Biden has been out of office for nearly a year and a half and the Trump administration is still blaming him, rather than taking responsibility for our current issues.
The housing crisis still exists. The economy is even worse. But they refuse to work with Democrats to get things done.
That's why the Trump Administration wants to eliminate HOPWA, which provides housing for people with HIV and AIDS.
HOPWA has had bipartisan support for 30 years, and it's not going to stop now.
Trump's HUD Secretary said Americans should get "equal rights, not extra rights." We all know Trump and Turner think anti-discrimination laws give LGBTQ+ people "extra rights."
Last week, I got to visit Friedman Place, a residential center for blind and visually impaired adults, for their annual Open House and Art Show!
It’s extraordinary to see the talent in our community.
I cross-examined Trump’s Housing Secretary Scott Turner on how the administration is cutting funding that helps people who are homeless — all while discriminating against LGBTQ+ Americans and people of color.
Take a look here.

It’s undeniable that the climate crisis is bringing more severe flooding to Illinois. I joined @duckworth.senate.gov and @quigley.house.gov to introduce the Flood Mapping Modernization and Homeowner Empowerment Pilot Program Act to support urban communities and governments preparing for flood risks.
All the files have to be released. All the names must be unredacted. The public deserves to know the truth.
Trump’s Department of Justice has still refused to follow the Epstein Files Transparency Law. Instead of protecting survivors, they left their names in the few files they released—all while redacting Epstein’s email buddies' names.
I also want to acknowledge CPD Officer Aréanah Preston, who was killed in the line of duty a few years ago. I recently had the privilege of attending her memorial service and meeting her loved ones.
