Constituents are telling me that increased healthcare costs will be devastating for themselves and their families. I am ready, willing, and able to work with Republican colleagues to reopen the government, but will not accept a budget that decimates healthcare for thousands of Oregonians.
Two years ago FEMA awarded Columbia Memorial Hospital a BRIC grant to build a new campus that will serve as a vertical evacuation structure. The Trump Administration is trying to break that promise, but I'm not giving up. This is about saving lives.

LAWSUIT UPDATE RE: NATIONAL GUARD IN PORTLAND: The Ninth Circuit just paused the three-judge panel’s order on our first TRO until Tuesday so they can complete their en banc vote.
This means for now, both our TROs preventing National Guard deployment remain in effect.

I continue to call on the administration to change course and focus on lowering costs for the American people rather than sending the military to city streets.
Today's 2-1 decision is disappointing, but it is only one step in the legal process. The fact remains that Oregon does not need or want federal troops.
I stood outside the FEMA office in DC to send a message that the Trump administration is withholding millions of grant funding dollars that Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria earned to prepare for an earthquake and tsunami.
This is about saving lives.
