Trump’s policies are making life increasingly unaffordable. Kicking millions off SNAP benefits will only make things worse.
Why did Republicans do it? To pass enormous tax breaks for billionaires.
They took food away from families so the ultra-rich could get richer.
It’s greed, pure and simple.

Since the Big Ugly Bill, more than 11,000 Mainers have lost SNAP benefits.
That number is growing.
These are moms trying to make ends meet. Veterans, domestic violence survivors, people experiencing homelessness, and older Mainers now being forced through new hoops just to keep food on the table.
Firefighters and emergency crews put everything on the line for us, and today is a painful reminder of the sacrifices they make.
I’m grateful to the medical teams, mutual aid departments, and volunteers supporting the response and recovery efforts.
I’m heartbroken by the devastating explosion in Searsmont that injured multiple Mainers and took the life of a firefighter who ran into danger to protect others.
My thoughts are with the loved ones of the firefighter who lost their life, the survivors, their families and the brave first responders.
My heart is with the Searsmont community as officials respond to a reported mass casualty incident at Robbins Lumber.
Details are still limited. Please follow updates from local authorities, avoid the area, and keep those impacted and the first responders in your thoughts.
That he delivered his lecture about "waste" and "fraud" while his Admin. is spending $1 billion a day on a war that Americans do not support—to say nothing of the staggering corruption of his own President—is beyond parody.
It’s shameful, it’s dangerous, and it’s beneath the dignity of his office.
Vance’s remarks were a clumsy attempt to distract from his Administration's disastrous policies.
At a time when Mainers are being crushed by rising costs, he used his time and platform to amplify baseless conspiracy theories, spread blatant disinformation, and threaten to defund critical programs.
For every Olivia whose story breaks through, there are countless others still trapped in ICE facilities like Dilley.
This is a place built to incarcerate families and children—using your tax dollars. What I saw there was truly disturbing.
It must be closed for good.
My op-ed in @pressherald.com 👇
Between the crypto scams, the emoluments clause violations, and weaponizing government against his opponents, he’s the most corrupt president in history—by far.
It was never about “MAGA." It was always about enriching himself and other billionaires.
It’ll take years to undo the damage he’s done.
After his tax returns were leaked, Trump sued the Treasury Department for $10 BILLION.
It seemed outrageous at the time. But if there’s one thing we know about this DOJ, they’ll do ANYTHING to make Trump happy.
You want to talk about “waste, fraud, and abuse?” This is all three wrapped into one!
Maine electricity prices are up 20% since last year.
Instead of helping families, the Admin is using taxpayer $ to pay companies to abandon wind projects and redirect investments to LNG exports.
Enough with the dirty deals!
Congress has the power of the purse. Why do Republicans REFUSE to use it?
That lost income proved insurmountable.
It'll now be much harder for many families to put food on the table. All while Trump's Big Ugly Bill kicks 2.4 million Americans off SNAP—including 30K Mainers.
These punitive policies weaken the food systems families and small businesses rely on.
Shameful.
Fresh Approach was a Portland staple, and one of the few stores around that accepted SNAP.
It's closing—thanks to Trump’s USDA.
After *one* violation (involving dish soap and tissues) the store was fined and lost its ability to accept SNAP.
I sent a letter urging USDA to reconsider. They refused.
This bill would also:
✅ Help schools cover the real cost of meals
✅ Support schools that buy food from local farmers
✅ Wipe out unpaid school meal debt
✅ Provide free summer meals to all children
Maine is already leading the way. Now it’s time for Congress to follow. (3/3)
That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor the Universal School Meals Program Act to make sure *every* student in America—no matter where they live—can get free breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack at school.
No stigma.
No shame.
No child turned away. (2/3)
🧵
More than 14 million kids in the US live in food-insecure households.
Here in Maine, every public school student can get free breakfast and lunch, regardless of family income.
It's working. The program now serves 170,000+ students.
EVERY child in America deserves that same peace of mind. (1/3)
In Maine, we’ve already seen what this looks like: ICE agents intimidating people who were peacefully observing and documenting enforcement actions, even showing up at residents’ homes and telling people they were on a “terrorist watchlist.”
That kind of intimidation has no place in a free country.
This shouldn't be controversial, but here we are… debating in the FY27 Commerce, Justice, Science bill whether taxpayer dollars should be used to spy on, investigate, or intimidate Americans for exercising their First Amendment rights.
(I agree with @pocan.house.gov: They absolutely should not.)
As ever, stay vigilant, remain peaceful and look out for your neighbors.
I know many are still traumatized by what happened during “Operation Catch of the Day.” That’s why it’s so important that we stick together. Today, tomorrow and every day until ICE’s cruelty is finally brought to an end. (3/3)
