The ICE raids across the country are horrifying: Plainclothes officers are detaining people on the way to their immigration hearings. I'm joining over 50 of my Democratic colleagues in demanding Donald Trump stop targeting law-abiding immigrants.
Earlier this week, I attended a vigil to honor the lives of Sarah Milgram and Yaron Lischinsky. The young couple was murdered a just few weeks ago outside the Capital Jewish Museum. We must condemn antisemitism everywhere. May Sarah and Yaron’s memory be a blessing—and encourage us to be better.
Great seeing community members at last weekend's Horner Park Farmers' Market. I know I can always count on the market's vendors for fresh produce, including scallions and strawberries!🌱 🍓
Trump wants to "phase out" FEMA after this hurricane season. Without this federal assistance, how will states like Florida battle future hurricanes? How will Chicagoland mitigate flooding?
People will die if Trump slashes the HUD budget by 50%. Seniors, kids, and other people will be on the streets. I asked Trump’s HUD Secretary today if he understands that. @democrats-appropriations.house.gov
I'm on the Hill voting, but my staff is hosting a Power of Attorney Workshop with the Center this week! If you or someone you know is a senior citizen, stop by to learn more about powers of attorney and living wills. Join my team at Sulzer Regional Library this Wednesday at 11:30 am.
Moderated by Law 360's Courtney Bublé, this panel discussion will feature government accountability experts from ‪@citizensforethics.org + the National Taxpayers Union + @freedom.press. Hope to see you there!
From failing to recommend the measles vaccine to citing non-existent studies, RFK Jr. is unfit to be our HHS Secretary. I’m calling for him to resign.
Today marks 60 years since the Supreme Court made birth control a legal right — and it's unconscionable House Republicans continue to attack this. I’m going to keep fighting for your rights, along with my Reproductive Caucus colleagues.
The ‪National Weather Service in Chicago has extended its air quality alert, which means anyone with respiratory diseases like asthma should avoid long stretches outside. Today’s haze is caused by wildfires. Now, imagine a reality where Trump lets polluters make days like this the norm.
For over a decade, I have proudly reintroduced the TRACE Act — my bill to stop black market guns — each Congress. This Gun Violence Awareness Month, let's pass this bill once and for all and stop guns from ending up in the wrong hands.
During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, please think of the 250,600 Illinois residents living with Alzheimer's or dementia. I am honored to work with Alzheimer's Association Illinois Advocacy in supporting further research on brain diseases. Let's #EndALZ together. @alzassociation.bsky.social‬
Yesterday, I met with the eighth graders of St. James Arlington Heights outside the Capitol. I was impressed with their questions and curiosity, especially after their long trip in the DC heat!
I also asked the FAA Administrator about what the agency is doing to reduce plane noise. As Vice-Chair of the Bipartisan Quiet Skies Caucus, I’ll continue to fight for decreasing this noise that plagues our neighbors surrounding O’Hare. @democrats-appropriations.house.gov
