34,000 West Michiganders in my district are now at risk of going hungry. It’s unconscionable, and I’m working every day to bring this pain to an end and reopen our government.
Despite the recent court order, the Trump Admin still has to take action to administer the funds allocated by Congress for a SNAP lapse in funding.
As of today, November 1, 2025, federal funding has lapsed because the Trump Admin and USDA decided not to use the funds they have set aside for emergencies such as this shutdown. 🧵
This legislation would grant federal recognition to the Grand River Bands, allowing Tribal members to access critical resources, including social services, education, housing, elder care, and the ability to exercise treaty rights — benefits that are only afforded to federally recognized tribes.
I’m a huge advocate for our Native tribes, and am fighting to pass my bill, the bipartisan Bands of Ottawa Indians Restoration Act.
The Grand River Bands have a long and storied history in West Michigan, and this 200+ year-old Indigenous trade route is a critical part of that history.
It was an honor to take part in the moving recognition ceremony earlier this week. www.mlive.com/news/grand-r...
Ahead of schedule and done well: this is what happens when local, state, and federal partners team up and work together.
I’m grateful to our partners in the effort to dredge the Grand Haven Harbor, and am proud of Team Scholten’s work to lead the charge in getting this essential project moving.
West Michigan, I’m wishing you and your family a Happy Halloween, but I know that the spookiest part of the holiday this year seems to be the cost of candy. 👻 🍬
As a founding member of the Lowering Costs Caucus, I’m determined to work to get prices down and keep life affordable.
✅Republicans and USDA have the authority to fund SNAP.
✅They have the money to do it.
Rather than help people, they are:
❌CHOOSING to let Americans go hungry.
❌Using hunger as a political tool.
It’s barbaric. It’s time for them to get back to work and end this shutdown.
We’re mere days away from folks losing the benefits they need to put food on their table. I led Michigan Dems in Congress to call on Sec. Rollins and USDA to use their contingency fund, which is set aside for scenarios exactly like the one we’re in now.
We can’t leave American families to starve.
Republicans could end this shutdown today if they agreed to extend ACA tax credits — something that 78% of Americans support. Instead, they are spending our tax dollars on ballrooms, billionaires, and bailouts for foreign governments.

Our West Michigan community is going to be devastated by a loss of SNAP benefits next month. The leaders at the Grand Rapids Community Food Club fear that their patrons won’t be able to afford to put food on their tables, and I’m determined to do everything possible to support them.
Sec. Rollins: Do the right thing. Don’t let Americans go hungry.
Here are the facts:
✅Congress provided SNAP contingency funding for emergencies.
✅A Republican shutdown is an emergency.
✅42 million Americans need food assistance.
✅Secretary Rollins has the funding and legal authority to issue SNAP benefits in November.
Today, we remember the 11 innocent Jewish congregants whose lives were cut short by an act of senseless violence at the Tree of Life Synagogue in 2018.
We must stand up and speak out against hate and antisemitism in all forms. I'm praying for the families of the victims today.
The subsidies and credits enacted under the Affordable Care Act are pro-business, and pro-America. I’m deeply disappointed that my Republican colleagues refuse to work in the best interest of the American people by extending these credits.
Our neighbors to the North are our biggest trading partner, and our trade relationship with them should be expanded — not destroyed.

@housedemocrats.bsky.social are laser-focused on getting folks the SNAP benefits they need to feed their families, and we’re calling on the Trump Admin to do the same.
SNAP benefits — or “food stamps” as they are more commonly referred to — are a lifeline for Americans of all ages, beliefs, and backgrounds.
An estimated 42 million Americans rely on them to put food on their table, including 1.4 million Michiganders.
