I was proud to speak at their annual Sponsoring a Dream Scholarship Gala and reaffirm my commitment to fighting for equitable, accessible health care.
For decades, the Grand Rapids Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association has played an important role in educating and caring for our neighbors throughout West Michigan.
It’s long past time to pass another assault weapons ban. Congress must take action now. These weapons of war have no place in our communities, churches, classrooms, or on our streets.
On this day in 1994, President Clinton signed the first-ever Federal Assault Weapons Ban into law. Since it expired in 2004, Congress has failed to reestablish an assault weapons ban, and innocent Americans have paid the price.
On this week’s episode of Straight Talk With Scholten, I discuss two of the culprits behind the costs of health care rising — two that COULD and SHOULD be resolved by Congress.
Let’s get into it.

I’m deeply concerned about the steep cost of health care, and the folks being hit the hardest are everyday, hardworking Americans like you.
Our aviation professionals deserve support.
I’m a proud cosponsor of the Mental Health in Aviation Act of 2025, which passed the House this week, and would require the FAA to review and update its regulations and policies on mental health for pilots and air traffic controllers.
Let me be clear: I’m ready to work with anyone to enact real permitting reform that both expedites decisions AND safeguards our waters.
@transportdems.bsky.social are ready to make it happen.
I’m joining my Lowering Costs Caucus colleagues to call on Sec. Duffy to rethink this decision and support American air travellers.

Airline travelers facing delays were set to receive compensation for lengthy delays and cancellations under a Biden-era rule, that is, until recently. Trump’s DoT reversed course on this rule, ending a commonsense approach to flight delays — an issue we all despise.
Today marks the 24th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. As we remember the lives lost, we honor the survivors, first responders, and families whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001.
Political violence of any kind has no place in our country. The attack on Charlie Kirk today is reprehensible and not a reflection of who we are as a country. I condemn it in the strongest terms.
I am praying for him and his family.
Thanks to the leaders at West Michigan’s own @vai.org for their commitment to advancing the medical field. I’m proud to support American innovation, especially when it’s coming from MI-03!
I’m working alongside our health care providers to ensure that they are fully equipped to provide top-of-the-line care to our community. Thanks to members of the American Academy of Dermatology for their work to support and enhance patient care everywhere.
Affordable, accessible housing should be available for all of our neighbors, and the leaders at GRHC are working every day to make that a reality.
Great to meet again in Washington to continue our partnership in expanding affordable housing options in West Michigan.
September is #SuicidePreventionMonth.
We lose 74 people every day to firearm suicide in America. Storing all your guns securely can help prevent a tragedy.
Visit endfamilyfire.org for tips on how to protect yourself and your loved ones with safe firearm storage.
These bills would bolster transportation supply chains and support airport operations in West Michigan and beyond.
Michigan put the world on wheels, and I am ready to work across the aisle to ensure that West Michigan’s transportation sector continues to thrive. I’m so proud that two of my bipartisan @transportdems.bsky.social bills passed the House today.
My mom always said, “If you can read, you can do ANYTHING,” and I’m a firm believer in this piece of wisdom. This #InternationalLiteracyDay, let’s remember the critical importance of literacy for creating a more literate, just, peaceful, and sustainable society.
It’s an honor to help send young West Michiganders off to our nation’s service academies every year.
