Pete Hegseth's reckless handling of sensitive information has put service members’ lives & our national security at risk. Every President deserves a competent Secretary of Defense who puts the security of this country first. This is not a partisan issue. We all deserve much better than this.
With cuts to the NPS, attacks on natural disaster preparedness & climate science, and this administrationʻs gutting of our country’s environmental & health protections, #EarthDay reminds us to continue fighting for our jobs, our homes, & our planet. Itʻs on us to create a safer, healthier future.
Pope Francis lived as a reminder for all of us to be inclusive & empathetic, whether it was toward our LGBTQ+ ohana, migrants, our planet, or the well-being of humanity. May we continue to carry on his legacy of compassion, humility & acceptance as we seek to live as he did.
President Trump & DOGE gutted 36 programs at UH ending research in renewable energy, sustainability & health, all things we desperately need in Hawaiʻi. Worse, they are inciting fear among our int'l students & talent. With more cuts to come, this will not make life in Hawaiʻi great or any easier.
Medicaid is a lifeline for over 287,000 in Hawai‘i, including keiki, pregnant women, people with disabilities & more than half our kūpuna in nursing homes. Cutting Medicaid would harm thousands but this isn’t just about healthcare—it’s about the well-being of our communities. No cuts to Medicaid.
70 million Americans count on Social Security. So do 175,000 in Hawaiʻi. These are our keiki and kūpuna—real people who have earned and deserve this support. This isn’t “waste” or “fraud”—for many, it’s a financial lifeline. Hands off Social Security.
Our Maui County Field Representative, Deidre Tegarden, is on-site to assist you with any federal issue. If you have questions, contact us at (808) 746-6220.
My office will hold office hours at the CNHA’s Kakoʻo Maui Resource Center in Lahaina on Wednesday (Office of Recovery, Lahaina Gateway Plaza, 325 Keawe St. Suite B102) from 9am-2pm on Wednesday.
The SAVE Act would mean a driver's license isn't enough to vote. You'd need a birth certificate w/ your current legal name or a passport. The problem: 70 million women who married & changed their name would not be able to vote & 48% of Americans lack passports. That's voter suppression—I voted no.
The National Dislocated Worker Grant has been vital in funding disaster recovery work & providing temporary employment to wildfire survivors. Yet, the future of the program remains uncertain. Maui’s recovery is not just a priority—it’s a promise. I will keep fighting to ensure that promise is kept.
Proud to launch the Bipartisan Congressional Coffee Caucus today with my colleague Rep. Timmons, and Bill Murray, President of the NCA. Coffee is an iconic crop for Hawaii, sipped by 2/3 of adults each day & supports millions of jobs across the country. And yes, we served Kona coffee! ☕️
Glad I made it home at the end of last week to meet with Hawaii Head Start providers & students from UH Manoa Center for Southeast Asian Studies. They detailed the harms they've suffered from Trump admin cuts. Mahalo for sharing your stories with me—I will always stand for you in Congress.

Great to meet with #HI02 Rep. @tokuda.house.gov, who sponsored the Stop Illegal Campaign Coordination Act and has been a consistent voice for accountability in Washington. We’re excited to keep working with her on this critical issue.

Mahalo to all who came out to my Waiʻanae town hall on Saturday. Over the past weeks, I’ve held a town hall in every county of Hawaiʻi. From Pāhoa to Kapaʻa, I appreciate every one of you who came out to share your concerns. To stay updated on town halls, visit buff.ly/HlxO5mZ.
Honored to present awards at NVMC to Leonard Oka, Nelson Okumura, and Hawai’i Alpha Delta Kappa-Gamma for their contributions to Legacy, Philanthropy, and Leadership. Mahalo nui for your critical work in preserving our history & opening doors for future generations to excel. You are an inspiration!
Our transgender ʻohana are being vilified, just for being who they are. We should be able to benefit from the knowledge and experience of leaders like Kumu Hina Wong-Kalu. Despite this administration's attempts to erase them—our trans ʻohana deserve to feel like they belong, because they do.
Trump's tariffs are reckless & short-sighted. Small businesses worry they'll have to close, consumers are facing higher prices, and 401k accounts have fallen. Worse, this damage is self-inflicted. How is instigating a global trade war & raising prices for our ʻohana making America great again??
