Members of Congress, the President, and the Vice President should not be trading stocks. Period. I signed onto a discharge petition to force a vote on this - we need to ban stock trading for public officials NOW.
Right now, a teacher or nurse pays a higher tax rate than the richest people in the country. That’s outrageous. Trump was serious when he first talked about his wealth tax plan and I’m serious about getting it done. Let’s make sure the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share. Read my bill here ⬇️ (4/4)
At the time, during a TV appearance, Trump said, “If I were president, it would be passed. I think if somebody else is president, it probably can't be… This is a tax paid by one percent." (3/4)
Seriously. In 1999, then-presidential hopeful Donald J. Trump announced a wealth tax plan to eliminate the national debt in its entirety. His plan would impose a net worth tax of 14.25 percent on all individuals and trusts with a net worth of $10,000,000 or more. (2/4)
Tax Day this week was a reminder that Republicans gutted health care to give tax breaks to billionaires. We must tax the 1%. I introduced a bill to do just that and I expect complete and total support from the GOP. Why? Because this tax plan was created by Donald Trump himself. (1/4)
Today, we forced a vote to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. It just passed the House. The 350,000+ Haitian nationals who contribute greatly to our communities deserve protections. This is a huge win. Now, on to the Senate.
If Reps. Swalwell and Gonzales hadn't resigned, I would have voted to expel them from Congress. I have the utmost respect for the brave women who came forward and shared their stories. All survivors deserve justice, and abusers need to be held accountable without exception.
Reps. Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales have officially resigned from Congress, just before their colleagues were to start expulsion procedures against them. https://cnn.it/4tS9VJw
Trump's ICE and CBP have detained nearly 300 Dreamers and deported 90. This includes Dreamers like Juan Chavez Velasco who was detained on his way to visit his baby in the NICU. We must keep speaking out and make it clear that for Dreamers, #HomeIsHere.
Trump's impulsive, deranged posts are completely unacceptable and show a total disregard for humanity and the ideals our nation has upheld for centuries. These threats need to end immediately.
On Farmworkers Day, we recognize the millions of workers, families, and organizers who keep our nation fed and helped shape an enduring movement for fair pay and rights. Today, we honor them and continue the fight for dignity, safety, and fair treatment on the job.
As Interim Executive Director of the National City Chamber of Commerce, President of the Maytime Band Review’s Salute to Veterans Community Parade and Treasurer of both the National City Rotary Club and the Police & Fire Foundation, Karen has made meaningful contributions across our communities.
