Glad to recognize Joe Garbanzos as our April Constituent of the Month during National Volunteer Month.
Joe is the State President of AARP California and the Director of Southern California Region for Filipino Veterans Recognition and Education Project in addition to many other volunteer roles.
As Justice Kagan wrote, this ruling “will set back the foundational right Congress granted of racial equality in electoral opportunity."
This is a shameful rollback of protections that civil rights heroes fought so hard for. We will push back with every tool available.
TPS holders are part of our communities, raising families, and contributing $29 billion each year to our economy.
Ending TPS and sending people back to unsafe conditions is unacceptable. It would mean family separation, economic harm, and real human consequences.

‼️ PROTECT TPS
Today, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments in Trump's case to end TPS. The outcome of this could impact 1.3 MILLION people.
Political violence of any kind has absolutely no place in our country. I’m grateful to the Secret Service and law enforcement officers who took swift action to protect everyone attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
DACA recipients are losing their jobs and facing detention and deportation because of the Trump Administration's unacceptable renewal delays. We need answers.
Last night, Senate Republicans voted to give ICE another $70 BILLION to continue Trump’s mass deportation agenda. If this comes to the House floor, I will vote NO.
No blank checks for ICE.
It’s an attack on our students and their futures. I will keep fighting in Congress to ensure every student has the resources they need.
Today I joined Senator Hirono, Senator Padilla, and student advocates to speak out against Trump’s plan to completely cut funding for these programs at hundreds of colleges and universities.
Since taking office, Trump has targeted the diversity that helps make our country strong, and Minority Serving Institutions and Hispanic Serving Institutions are paying the price.

Members of Congress, the President, and the Vice President should not be trading stocks. Period. I signed onto a discharge petition to force a vote on this - we need to ban stock trading for public officials NOW.

Right now, a teacher or nurse pays a higher tax rate than the richest people in the country. That’s outrageous.
Trump was serious when he first talked about his wealth tax plan and I’m serious about getting it done. Let’s make sure the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share.
Read my bill here ⬇️ (4/4)
At the time, during a TV appearance, Trump said, “If I were president, it would be passed. I think if somebody else is president, it probably can't be… This is a tax paid by one percent." (3/4)
Seriously. In 1999, then-presidential hopeful Donald J. Trump announced a wealth tax plan to eliminate the national debt in its entirety. His plan would impose a net worth tax of 14.25 percent on all individuals and trusts with a net worth of $10,000,000 or more. (2/4)
Tax Day this week was a reminder that Republicans gutted health care to give tax breaks to billionaires.
We must tax the 1%.
I introduced a bill to do just that and I expect complete and total support from the GOP. Why? Because this tax plan was created by Donald Trump himself. (1/4)
Today, we forced a vote to extend Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. It just passed the House.
The 350,000+ Haitian nationals who contribute greatly to our communities deserve protections.
This is a huge win. Now, on to the Senate.
Sulfur emissions have repeatedly been over the limits. This is why I've called for a federal state of emergency. We need all hands on deck.
