The American people badly need their Congress to show courage, and to fight for them. Let us hope that this small step in that direction will be a turning point, and a harbinger of more action to come. 4/4
At the same time, most Republicans again tried to surrender Congress’ power as a coequal branch of government to check a president who is behaving like a mad king. The trade powers Trump is illegally usurping are expressly granted to Congress under the Constitution. 3/
This vote was heartening- a handful of Republicans finally stood up to Trump to put a stop to this madness. Let's hope more join them as we move on to consider measures to terminate tariffs on Canada and other key allies and trading partners soon. 2/
This was a very important vote tonight. Here's why. For the past year Trump’s illegal tariffs have crushed our economic growth, hit American families with higher costs, killed the very manufacturing jobs we were told they would multiply, and alienated our closest allies. 1/
Republican rule vote FAILS. Republican leaders just tried to use a procedural vote to continue their surrender of congressional powers to prevent Trump's abuse of tariff authorities. Three Republicans, Reps. Massie, Bacon, and Kiley, joined all Democrats to block them.

Lutnick had said, "I decided [in 2005] I will never be in a room with that disgusting person ever again. So I was never in the room with him socially, for business, or even philanthropy. If that guy was there, I wasn't going." He just admitted visiting Epstein's island in 2012:
VAN HOLLEN: Did you in fact make the visit to Epstein's private island? LUTNICK: I did have lunch w/ him as I was on a boat going across on a family vacation. My wife was with me as were my 4 children and nannies. We had lunch on the island. That's true. For an hour. We left with all of my children
This is yet another hostile attack in the Trump Administration’s relentless war against our civil service. They want to make it easier to fire qualified public servants so they can replace them with MAGA sycophants who serve Donald Trump above the law and the American people.
Exclusive: Roughly 50,000 federal workers would be easier to discipline or fire under a new Trump rule that reclassifies swaths of the government workforce.
The Trump Administration’s reckless foreign aid cuts are already undoing decades of progress, leading to surges in HIV/AIDS, malaria and hunger across the developing world. Studies project this massive aid loss could lead to 9.4 million deaths by 2030. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2026/...
Ending 287(g) restores public trust that our state and local law enforcement are focused on preventing crime, while remaining committed to assisting federal authorities when actions are grounded in law and there is a judicial warrant in hand.
Proud to see @abigailspanberger.com end 287(g) in Virginia. Our law enforcement should be focused on their vital missions, not distracted by the Trump Administration's chaotic, violent, and indiscriminate immigration enforcement which only makes our communities less safe.
Gov Spanberger has directed Virginia’s state law enforcement agencies to end 287g agreements with ICE, saying the agreements "improperly cede accountability and discretion over VA law enforcement" to the feds.
My heart goes out to those who are losing their jobs today, along with my thanks for helping keep my constituents informed about their community. Your work has not been in vain.
Mr. Bezos has the wealth and resources to make the Post better. If he is unwilling to invest in his own newsroom or afraid of the perceived risk, I urge him to consider selling the Washington Post to someone who will be a better steward of this beloved and essential institution.
The Washington Post is deeply important to our region. Instead of hiding in silence while he slowly kills one of the best newspapers in the country, Jeff Bezos should show the Post’s readers and employees basic respect by taking honest responsibility for his actions.
I suspect Bezos' decision to gut the Post’s staff rather than investing a tiny fraction of his vast wealth into growing it will only deepen its financial problems. Readers who lose coverage of the issues they care about will likely respond by cancelling their subscriptions.
