The Administration’s decision to terminate these critical mental health and addiction treatment grants was wrong from the start, but I’m glad to see they’ve reversed course after national outcry and our bipartisan letter to Secretary RFK Jr. A win for the American people.
Last night, the Trump administration took a chainsaw to billions of $$$ in mental health and addiction treatment grants that were already approved by Congress. I led 100 members in a bipartisan letter demanding this lifesaving funding be restored immediately.
"Battalions of armed federal agents are moving through neighborhoods, transit hubs, malls and parking lots and staging near churches, mosques and schools. Strangers with guns have metastasized in spaces where daily life should be routine and safe. It feels like a military occupation."
An unacceptable violation of the First Amendment by the Trump Administration. And before you even start talking about retaining classified documents lets remember that the most egregious breach by far in recent years was committed by Trump himself.
Breaking news: The FBI executed a search warrant Wednesday morning at a Washington Post reporter’s home as part of an investigation into a government contractor accused of illegally retaining classified government materials.
The people of Iran are showing remarkable courage in the face of repression and brutality. They have our support and the support of freedom-loving people all over the world as they risk their lives to free their country from violence and oppression.
House Democrats just DEFEATED a Republican bill to let employers deny overtime pay or minimum wage to workers if they classify time worked as "job training" or "education." 6 Republicans joined us and the vote failed; GOP leaders then cancelled votes on two more anti-labor bills.
Trump is drunk on power and pushing our country toward more endless wars, and Republicans refuse to rein in his foolish militarism, erratic expansionism and self-dealing. I will keep fighting for accountability, peace, and the rule of law alongside my Democratic colleagues.
Congress has a good opportunity to renew AGOA and Haiti trade preference programs that expired last year, and we should take it. These programs spurred investment in emerging markets, growing their economies and lowering our prices. My statement for @newdems.bsky.social:
Jerome Powell won’t bow to Trump’s pressure to dramatically slash interest rates, which would drive up inflation.   So, Trump is turning to his pattern of abusing the Justice Department to intimidate, silence, or even jail him, just as he’s done to other political opponents.
And the corollary: pardons and non-prosecutions for the president's friends and allies. This kind of corruption is the hallmark of criminal justice systems in countries you don't want to live in.
Trump's phony investigation of Fed Chair Powell on made up charges jeopardizes Fed independence, a key to our economic success. It's part of a larger pattern of Trump trying to prosecute and jail those who cross him—thuggish, autocratic behavior that threatens our democracy.
Takeaways from this morning's December jobs report: - Negative job growth in the final quarter of 2025 - The worst year for job growth outside a recession in 20+ years - Manufacturing jobs plummeting - Barely any job growth since Trump announced tariffs This is not good.
Leaders in the party that once claimed to stand for individual freedom and limited government now say if you don’t do what the masked men say, regardless of whether their orders are legal or contradictory, you won’t “get to keep your life.” They may kill you without trial.
Rep. Wesley Hunt: "The bottom line is this: when a federal officer gives you instructions, you abide by them and then you get to keep you life"
December jobs numbers are out: Employment continues to slow, and we added +50k jobs. The unemployment rate fell a tick to 4.4%. Oooph, revisions are brutal: October revised down -68k to -173k; November revised down -8k to +56k. Remember: The Fed thinks these numbers are overstated by 60k.
