ACA premium tax credits made it possible for people like Briana Bononcini to own her own business (the wonderful Hunt & Alpine in Portland). But with these tax credits set to expire at the end of the year, thousands of Mainers—including Briana—are about to see their monthly premiums skyrocket.
On Yom Kippur, many share the greeting "G’mar chatima tova"—a wish to be inscribed in the Book of Life for good. It’s a hopeful blessing, conveying resilience + renewal even in uncertain times. G’mar chatima tova to all who celebrate. Wishing you a meaningful fast and a year of peace and renewal.
@democrats-appropriations.house.gov have spent the past 9 months trying to work on bipartisan funding bills. And the sad part is, I *know* many of my Republican colleagues share our concerns about protecting affordable health care.
Day 1 of the Republican Shutdown. I'll be joining @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social's 24-hour livestream at 8 am to talk through how we got here, what this means for Mainers, and why Republicans must get back to work so we can get the government back open and save America’s health care. TUNE IN 👇
What is the president doing mere hours before the government shuts down? Calling @housedemocrats.bsky.social “woke pieces of shit” and using AI to post racist content of @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social. Disgusting, vile behavior — even by Trump’s standards.
REMINDER: Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. If the government shuts down tomorrow night, it’s entirely on their inability to govern and their refusal to negotiate. Mainers cannot afford the health care crisis they have created.
@housedemocrats.bsky.social have made clear that we support government funding legislation that cancels the cuts, lowers the cost, and saves health care for the American people. We will not rubberstamp Republicans’ partisan spending bill that causes health care premiums to soar.
I asked Mainers to share how losing ACA tax credits would affect them. The responses I got are devastating: premiums becoming more than mortgages, seniors falling into debt, families forced to choose between health care and basic needs. This is the human cost of Republicans’ health care crisis. 🧵
I'll be joining Democratic Women's Caucus Chair @fernandez.house.gov LIVE TONIGHT at 8 p.m. to answer your questions about the looming government shutdown and how Republicans got us in this mess. Submit your questions here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
