Eric Sorensen

Eric Sorensen is an American politician and meteorologist serving as the U.S. representative for Illinois's 17th congressional district since 2023. His district covers a large swath of western and central Illinois, centered around Moline, Rock Island, and the Illinois side of the Quad Cities. It also includes parts of Peoria and Rockford. A member of the Democratic Party, Sorensen is the first openly gay member of Congress from Illinois.

So the needle to thread here is tiny, compared to others who won’t be in jeopardy in 2026. Also, I fundamentally believe we will run out of energy fighting in defense. We need an offensive strategy to get our country out of this crisis.

What additional action do you suggest? I have one voice and I am one vote out of 435. I too believe Democrats should be doing 1000% more. And seeing a record turnout from neighbors at our local Dem Party meeting helps. But I am also in a district with 49% R’s and 51% D’s.

While the President decided to play gross politics with the air disaster, DCA opened right up again with no changes in protocol. I have moved all of my to/from trips from DCA to IAD until someone assures me the airspace has been made safer around Reagan.
