Juan’s mom went in front of an immigration judge this morning. She was told she will be deported, but was not told when or where. Both Juan and his mom are back at Dilley and their future remains uncertain.
Me and my team have been in contact with Juan’s family. Juan has bronchitis—according to his mom—and at some point in the last several hours he was unresponsive. Juan was still discharged from the hospital despite that around midnight today.
I have an update on Juan Nicolás, the 2-month-old baby detained at Dilley, and his mother.
Visit castro.house.gov to learn how to apply. Applications are due March 20, 2026.
Summer 2026 internships applications are now open!
My office is hiring interns for the San Antonio and Washington, D.C. offices. We are looking for college students or recent grads who want to learn and contribute to the democratic process.
At midnight, funding for ICE will lapse. I join Democrats in rejecting Trump’s mass deportation campaign and the depravity, violence, and trauma that it inflicts. www.tpr.org/news/2026-02...
ICE is detaining young pregnant women at a facility in Texas without proper medical care—some as young as 13, nearly half are victims of rape. This is not how we treat our most vulnerable. www.tpr.org/news/2026-02...
Nearly half of San Antonio exports go to Canada. Trump's tariffs on Canada are directly hurting businesses and making life more expensive.
Yesterday, I reminded my colleagues that Congress has a constitutional authority over tariffs. Last night, I voted YES to block Trump's tariffs against Canada.
Why is there a two-month-old in a trailer prison in Texas yet these guys are still free? www.politico.com/live-updates...
The President should immediately give Congress and the American people a rational explanation for such an extreme and unprecedented move.
The FAA has abruptly lifted its unprecedented ten day closure of El Paso airspace. Previously, no advanced notice was given and no justifiable explanation had been provided. This rash decision will erode trust in public safety.
When I picked up Liam from Dilley to go home, he was scared. He was taken away from his home, family, school, and was imprisoned. Liam is home now, but so many children remain. ICE must be disbanded and Dilley must close. #FreeOurChildren.
Rep. Joaquin Castro, who escorted 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos from a Texas immigration detention facility back to Minneapolis last week, said ICE’s enforcement tactics should lead to the agency being disbanded.

Congressmember @joaquincastrotx.bsky.social criticizes conditions at an ICE jail in Texas where hundreds of immigrant families are held — including kids as young as 2 months old.
"None of them have committed any crime. … There’s cameras everywhere. Their movements are controlled. It’s like prison."
She has been in Dilley for over 120 days. Her and Liam’s stories are one of thousands. What the Trump admin is doing to our children is depraved and unconscionable. Dilley must close. #FreeOurChildren

I've heard directly from hundreds of children at Dilley. One young girl who shared her story with me grew up in the United States and her stepfather is a U.S. citizen. She said that the guards are mean to her, she is afraid, and that she is worried she will die in detention.
Donald Trump’s racist, xenophobic, and dehumanizing image of Barack and Michelle Obama is sickening and shameful. It’s a disgusting trope and yet another example of why the president is unfit for office.
Just left STIPC Detention Center. This is a prison.

Update: On my way to the South Texas ICE Processing Center (STIPC).

Then a federal judge ordered his release and I escorted him and his father home to Minnesota.
But now the Trump Administration is trying to take him again. They are breaking legal precedent in an attempt to break this boy’s spirit and all of the Americans who are praying for him.
Liam Ramos, 5, spent ten days in a Texas trailer prison. He got sick, missed his mother and school, and was afraid of the guards.
Millions prayed, spoke up, and offered to do whatever they could to see him go home.
