Nearly two and a half centuries ago, our nation was born with a promise of liberty and justice for all. Today and every day, we remember the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedoms as we seek to make that promise come true for all Americans.
Why would any elected official vote for legislation that saddles the country with massive amounts of additional borrowing while simultaneously making most Americans sicker, hungrier, and poorer?
Anyone who voted for this bill should be ashamed of themselves.
Congressional Republicans are not only cutting food assistance programs for children, but they are also writing the law in a way that actively encourages states to increase their payment error rate.
So much for caring about waste, fraud, and abuse.

Last weekend, I hosted my annual event to honor participants in this year's Congressional Art Competition. I'm always amazed by the artistic talents among the 6th District's high school students. Congratulations to our 1st place winner, Zoe, whose art will be displayed in the US Capitol this year.
