5/ Similarly, when Trump says he hates Democrats that only furthers division.
Now more than ever we need leaders who will find common ground, not pit us against each other.
4/ We all have friends, neighbors, and coworkers we disagree with, but when you label them as evil, there’s nowhere else to go.
The conversation ends and that only furthers our polarization.
3/ This year, Minnesota Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were assassinated in their home.
State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also attacked.
Political violence is on the rise across all levels of government and impacts us all regardless of party.
2/ One year ago today, President Trump was nearly assassinated in Butler, PA.
I served as the top Democrat on the bipartisan task force to investigate the shooting and will continue to condemn political violence in the strongest possible terms, regardless of party. www.cpr.org/2024/09/18/i...
1/ Political violence is on the rise in America.
In the last decade alone, threats against elected officials have more than doubled.
Some thoughts on this rise in violence.🧵
What Republicans won’t tell you:
No tax on tips? Expires in three years.
Tax cuts for the rich? Permanent.
Trump and Republicans just took away health care from 17 million folks across our country.
That’s triple the population of Colorado.
7/ Put simply: Ending USAID was a mistake. And as a result, Americans will be less safe and secure.
6/ As America pulls back, our adversaries are eager to fill the void.
China’s already building highways, bridges, and ports in other nations. Now, millions will see the PRC’s flag on the food, vaccines, and other assistance they receive instead of ours.
5/ USAID helped Americans directly:
-Prevented diseases from spreading at home
-Fought terrorism & cartels abroad
-New markets for American farmers & businesses
-Supported research at U.S. universities
4/ The US gained goodwill globally from USAID.
Sick children received vaccines from the American people. Farmers received support from the American people. Starving families had food from the American people.
Millions associated America with this generosity. That’s now gone.
3/ Over the last 20 years, USAID saved 91 million lives globally—that’s the population of Texas, California, and New York combined. Without USAID, 14 million people could die in the next five years.
2/ First, I want to thank the men and women who served our country and who saved lives around the world to keep America safe and healthy. The men and women of USAID dedicated their lives to service and made a huge difference to millions, at home and abroad.
1/ The Trump administration’s closure of USAID is a huge mistake, here’s why🧵
Trump’s cuts have devastating consequences.
It’s not only hurt America’s credibility around the world, but it’s life or death for many.
As a former Army Ranger, caring for our servicemembers is personal to me.
I’m introducing a bipartisan bill to identify new ways to treat traumatic brain injury & deliver world-class care for our servicemembers.

This stat on Trump’s budget bill is wild:
The top 0.1% stand to gain $309K on average in 2027 ALONE.
Massive handouts for the rich. You pay the price.
Tax breaks for billionaires––permanent.
Tax breaks for working folks––expire.
If you’re not taxed on your tips, but you lose your health care, you’re worse off.
