Republicans would rather close the government than ensure Americans won't be kicked off their healthcare or watch their prices soar. Federal employees and servicemembers are set to miss their paychecks this Friday, yet Republicans still refuse to even *meet* for negotiations.
There’s a reason Republicans keep lying about Democrats wanting to give free health insurance to the undocumented. It’s because they want to take YOUR healthcare away and they’re hoping they distract you.
ACA tax credits are set to expire at the end of this year, but rate increase notices are already going out.   Here are just a few of the ways these subsidies help El Pasoans. They’re all reasons I’ll keep fighting.
"My wife is disabled and has several illnesses that I cannot afford without insurance. The ACA has been a tremendous blessing. Without it, medical expenses would drive us to bankruptcy!"
-Frank F.
"My daughter has type 1 diabetes, it has made her health costs manageable, she needs this to survive"
-Veronica C.
"I know l'm covered under
Medicare, but my husband, who is younger than I, has insurance through the marketplace and gets subsidies through the ACA.
This has been a godsend for us, because without the subsidies, we would not be able to afford his insurance."
-Sarah B.
"My health insurance tax credit has helped me access medications and therapy that have made it possible for me to have a life. l've finally feel like I have the chance to be a real person of my own!"
-Robin S.
These are called Pro Forma sessions and have to happen at least every three days for complicated procedural reasons. HOWEVER, when Democratic members rose and asked to be recognized so that we could call a vote on our proposal to fund the government. We were ignored and Rs adjourned the House.
The clock is ticking. Democrats are in D.C. ready to negotiate and keep the government open. But that’s hard to do when House Republicans are on vacation. If Republicans want our help, they know where to find us.
The absent House Republicans may claim, “We’ve already passed our bill!” That’s true, but they did so knowing it would fail in the Senate. You can't blame a shutdown on us when you present an unworkable "solution" and then skip town.
House Democrats occupy the House Floor while the Republican side is empty
Instead of negotiating with us, Republicans have resorted to spewing outlandish lies about what Democrats want in the hopes that they'll distract you with culture wars. No, we aren't fighting for Medicaid for undocumented immigrants or transgender surgeries.
Republicans are acting like passing their short-term Continuing Resolution is business as usual. What’s happening in America is ANYTHING but business as usual. Donald Trump ignores the law and Congressionally approved funding. Why we would we support a bill he’ll again ignore?
If Americans get slapped with higher healthcare premiums, which will happen if we don’t act now, they won’t be able to afford their care. Even Republicans know these higher premiums would be devastating www.politico.com/news/2025/09...
Americans are already dealing with increasing grocery costs and utility bills. Despite Trump’s promise to lower costs “on day one,” and usher in “a golden age,” the opposite is happening. And this looming healthcare crisis - once it hits - will be catastrophic for Americans.
If Republicans want help, Dems want to: 1. Help the 15 million Americans who’ll be kicked off healthcare because of their “Beautiful Bill” 2. Prevent premiums from skyrocketing by extending Affordable Care Act subsidies 3. Force Trump to follow the law when it comes to funding
Republicans created a healthcare crisis with massive Medicaid cuts to fund tax breaks for millionaires, and the President has ignored the law by cutting Congressionally funded programs and firing employees. Meanwhile, there is another healthcare crisis: expiration of Obamacare subsidies.
