Trump has already fired or forced out nearly 200,000 workers. Now they are slashing protections for thousands more. Federal workers keep our gov’t running and ensure the American people get their Social Security, VA benefits, and Medicaid. This is ridiculous. https://on.wsj.com/3OqTBQ8
Republicans love to talk about protecting kids, yet they are constantly putting trans kids in danger. Trans people account for less than 1% of the population, yet there were 745 anti-trans bills introduced last year alone. It’s cruelty for the sake of cruelty.
Republicans have handed over Congress’s Article I powers to the White House. They don’t question him, they don’t hold him accountable. They don’t do anything to rein in the lawlessness of this administration. But Democrats will.
Tom Homan has said that he will pull 700 DHS agents out of Minnesota — that still leaves 2,300 agents or a force FOUR TIMES the size of the local Minneapolis police force. ICE and CBP need to get out of our communities NOW.
U.S. citizens are facing intimidation, threats, and brutality at the hands of ICE and Border Patrol. Instead of calling this out, Republicans are trying to point the finger to free speech in Europe. We won’t let them. It’s time for accountability right here at home.
DHS is using biometric technology to create a surveillance state with militarized troops terrorizing communities. That’s why I’m leading the ICE Out of Our Faces Act with @edmarkey.bsky.social and @jeff-merkley.bsky.social to stop the proliferation of this technology and protect our democracy.
Republicans held a hearing on “Europe’s threat to American speech” — fully ignoring the fact that Trump and his DHS are violating the First Amendment here in American daily. We are in a crisis in this country, and Republicans are doing everything possible to distract from that.
It is unbelievable that Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, and Todd Blanche are continuing to protect predators — redacting their names while exposing the names of survivors and REFUSING to investigate these pedophiles. The people in these files, who wrote these emails, should be investigated and deposed NOW.
Trump and Republicans are working for one group of people right now — billionaires. Instead of introducing ludicrous legislation to pretend they’re trying to balance the budget, they should be working to serve their constituents — not the President and his billionaire buddies.
The Judiciary Committee should be a space where we discuss how we can protect our Constitution and how we can protect the American people. These should be things we can work on in a bipartisan way. Republicans don’t want to do any of that.
I will not be complicit in sending another dime to DHS as they continue their reign of terror. We must get these agents out of the Twin Cities and out of our communities across this country. My full statement:
When Democrats have the gavels back, we need to dismantle DHS and ensure that immigration is handled how it should be — as a CIVIL system. In the meantime, we won’t stop pushing for guardrails to ICE and CBP.
Kristi Noem sending ICE agents in MN body cameras is simply not enough. We also need major reforms — including access to body cam footage, no masks, independent investigations, and real accountability for ICE and CBP’s lawlessness.
