If Republicans were serious about honoring law enforcement during National Police Week, they wouldn't let Trump pay off the people who beat up law enforcement on January 6th. Trump calls these convicted criminals ‘patriots’ and gave them a blanket pardon. Now he wants to give them taxpayer dollars.
Over 50K people apply for law enforcement jobs a year, which includes a background check. Yet officers can get hired who shouldn't be: current law blocks key hiring agencies from accessing federal criminal history. The solution is simple: Give the agencies access to this info.
My bipartisan bill w/ Rep. Derek Schmidt just passed the House unanimously. The bill grants access to federal criminal records to agencies training + hiring new law enforcement officers. It's a commonsense solution that will strengthen public safety. A reminder that Congress can get things done.
Families + businesses are hurting from rising gas prices. Trump's attitude? “If they rise, they rise.” That’s unacceptable. I met with local business and nonprofit leaders to hear how these costs are hurting them and their employees. Washington must end this war + lower prices.
Trump’s budget proposes devastating cuts to National Science Foundation programs at community colleges that prepare students for careers in STEM. I’ve seen the impact of these NSF grants at Wake Tech, where students are training in AI and automation. I will keep fighting to protect STEM education.
'Right now, I’m fighting to maintain my staff, their quality of life, & I want to give them more,' Hightower said. Small business owners want to support their employees, but rising costs are making it harder. That’s why I spoke to local leaders about the impact of rising gas costs.
I’m grateful to our law enforcement for having a security plan to keep our graduates and their families safe this weekend. North Carolina will not tolerate any threats of violence. I’m wishing everyone a safe and joyous weekend. www.wral.com/news/local/m...
While gas hovers at $4.20 a gallon, the NC Rail Division is celebrating its 5th year of record ridership. Train travel is affordable, fun, and better for the planet. I was so grateful to hop aboard the Raleigh-Charlotte line and hear about the amazing work NC Rail is doing.
Partisan gerrymandering has left millions without true representation in Congress, including here in NC. I’ve introduced a bill to increase transparency and backed legislation to require independent commissions in every state. It just needs Republican support to pass.
I signed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to reverse a Louisiana court ruling restricting access to mifepristone. The brief affirms what science has long shown: mifepristone is safe and effective. Women deserve to make decisions over their bodies - not judges and politicians.
Wake County Meals on Wheels goes above & beyond for seniors, providing many over half of their weekly meals. But cuts in the Big Ugly Law have gutted food assistance. I visited Wake MOW and delivered meals to seniors to hear how these cuts are hurting our community.
I turned out for the teachers rally to support Wake County educators. Our teachers are underpaid, overworked, and underappreciated. It's time for North Carolina to invest in our public schools and give our teachers a raise.
I am standing in full solidarity with the thousands of NC teachers marching for fair pay and proper school funding. Wake County faces $16M in cuts this year Today, our educators are putting everything on the line to ensure every student gets the resources they deserve.
After 75 days of chaos, House Republicans finally agreed to do the right thing and end the DHS shutdown. This crisis was entirely avoidable, and Republicans bear full responsibility. Now, Democrats will stay focused on passing urgently needed reforms to ICE and CBP.
SCOTUS has given Republicans across the country the green light to dilute the power of voters of color. This follows a long history of voter suppression in our country, especially in the South. Congress must pass a national ban on ALL gerrymandering immediately. ncnewsline.com/2026/04/29/s...
