Despite doing one of the most important jobs in our society, too many educators remain underpaid.
I will continue fighting to ensure our teachers receive the compensation and benefits that reflect the value they bring to our students, families, and communities.
That same dedication is reflected in teachers across the Sacramento region and throughout our nation. Our teachers do far more than teach lessons. They build confidence, mentor students, and help shape the next generation.
Happy National Teacher Appreciation Day!
Today, I’m thinking of my mom who spent 35 years as a public school teacher. I saw firsthand the hard work, patience, and care she brought to her classroom every day.
Thank you to everyone who voted and to all the talented artists who entered this year’s competition!
Congratulations to Gisselle from El Camino Fundamental High School in Sacramento for winning my office’s Congressional Art Competition!
I look forward to seeing her artwork represent the Sacramento region in the halls of Congress.
Congress must respond by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
Today’s Supreme Court decision severely restricts the enforcement power of Section 2, enabling states to draw maps that dilute minority voting power and undermine fair representation in Congress.
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed after decades of relentless advocacy by civil rights activists who fought, marched, and sacrificed to secure the right to vote.
Please take a moment to vote for the artwork you would like to see selected as this year’s champion. The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year!

Voting is now live for the 2026 Congressional Art Competition!
Thank you to all the talented young artists across the Sixth District who entered this year’s competition.
Thank you to everyone who made the trip. I look forward to continuing our work together to bring additional federal support and resources home to the Sacramento region.
We had productive conversations about the priorities that matter most to our region, from growing our economy and strengthening infrastructure to supporting families and improving our quality of life.
As the capital region of the world’s fourth largest economy, Sacramento has an important story to tell and a strong voice to bring to the federal level.
It was great to welcome leaders from across the Sacramento region to D.C. last week for another successful Capitol-to-Capitol program!
I am grateful for the swift actions of law enforcement at tonight’s White House Correspondents Dinner & relieved to hear that everyone is safe.
Tonight was about celebrating the First Amendment & our free press. We can never allow violence or intimidation to infringe upon that fundamental freedom.

CAPAC Members Condemn Trump’s Racist Post Against Indian and Chinese Immigrants:
As the son of Indian immigrants, I take great pride in both my heritage and in the country that gave my family the opportunity to build a better life.
The comments shared by Trump on Truth Social about Indian immigrants are offensive, ignorant, and beneath the dignity of the office he holds.

Coming soon on the Betting on America podcast: my conversation with @bera.house.gov — the longest-serving Indian American in Congress — on U.S. economic security.
I will continue working to ensure our federal partners and rural communities have the resources to strengthen long-term resilience, protect our natural spaces, and build a healthier, more sustainable world for our children and grandchildren.
