🔊Turn the sound on.    What you’re hearing are the voices of Americans calling my office, distraught by ICE actions in Minneapolis and across the country.   They called because they’re scared, they're angry, and they're demanding change.
Their message is clear: ICE must be held accountable.
As a veteran, I know the U.S. Army holds its soldiers deployed abroad to a higher standard than what we have seen from ICE on American streets.     That's why I voted NO on a bill to fund ICE without making critical reforms.    You can read my full statement below.
At seven years old, Romchyk Oleksiv was severely burned in a Russian missile strike that killed his mother.   Putin's brutality is robbing children like Romchyk of their families, their childhoods, and their lives.   The U.S. must continue to stand with Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty.
Virginia is home to hardworking federal workers, contractors, and service members. This week, many are once again wondering when they will get their next paycheck. I’m proud to join Rep. Walkinshaw in introducing legislation to guarantee that these folks get paid when the government shuts down.
February is Black History Month.  This month, we honor and celebrate the rich history and contributions of Black Americans in Virginia and across the United States. Join me as we recommit to confronting inequities and working together to build a more just and inclusive America for all.
One year later, our hearts are still with the families, friends, and loved ones of the 67 people lost in the collision near DCA.

I’m grateful to all of the first responders who were on the scene that day and served with courage and compassion.
Thank you to the VA Department of Transportation, VA Department of Emergency Management, VA State Police, VA National Guard, VA Department of Health, and all agencies who kept Virginians safe during this weekend’s winter storm. Please continue to stay safe and travel with caution.
This month, the world watched in horror as Renee Good and Alex Pretti were brutally gunned down on the streets of Minneapolis.    Americans should not fear being murdered by federal agents for exercising their first amendment rights.
Alex Pretti was a VA nurse. Renee Good was a poet and mother of three.     They were community members, neighbors, and beloved sons and daughters.     But the Trump admin has attempted to smear them as “domestic terrorists” and “monsters.” (1/2)
I am deeply disturbed that Rep. Ilhan Omar was charged by an agitator at a town hall last night. Violence and intimidation have no place in our society. Trump needs to turn down the temperature of his dangerous rhetoric. The attacker must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
A man attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar while she was speaking during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis, according to local police. The man used a syringe to spray an unknown liquid at Omar. The man was immediately arrested and booked on suspicion of third-degree assault. https://wapo.st/3LHLEp4
This year, I nominated exceptional Virginians to U.S. Service Academies. It was an honor to recognize them at a reception.   As a 25-year Army veteran, watching the next generation step forward to serve is meaningful.     I’m proud of the nominees and grateful to the families for their support.
On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the memory of the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust and the millions of others persecuted by the Nazis.   We must never forget this horrific chapter in history, and we must recommit ourselves to standing against hate in all forms.
The remains of the last hostage held in Gaza have been identified and will be returned home for burial.    No family should ever have to endure such loss or prolonged uncertainty — and all hostages held in the region must be returned to their families without delay.
