Children weren’t the target of federal food program changes, but they’re increasingly “collateral damage,” one expert said.
The drop in the number of children receiving SNAP benefits is a “public health crisis” in the making, said another expert.
Happy Father's Day to all the fathers and grandfathers! I am so grateful for my children and grandchildren who always inspire me to be better.
Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of enslaved people and serves as a reminder of America's history with racism, injustice, and suffering.
Even as this administration attempts to erase this history, we must confront and learn from it to build a better future.
I welcome efforts to negotiate an end to the war in Iran, but the MOU lays bare the failure of the President's strategy.
It's worse than what was on offer before the US-Israeli bombing campaign and fails to improve on the Iran deal he so foolishly cast aside.

Have you been annoyingly paying for Trump's vanity projects in Washington, DC?
If you've visited a national park lately, you have. And you didn't even get a say.
The U.S. directly benefits from public health breakthroughs like this because we’ve built world-class scientific institutions and empowered experts to do their work.
We can accomplish more by strengthening those institutions rather than starving them of funding and talent.
As screwworm continues to spread, Trump's USDA is prioritizing firing and relocating the public servants responsible for containing this outbreak instead of investing in the infrastructure needed to control it and prevent it from happening again.

NEW: Internal spending reviews at USDA and OMB slowed the federal government's response to the New World screwworm, a flesh-eating pest that threatens the U.S. cattle industry.
“That sense of urgency wasn’t there,” said a former USDA official.

The HSI and HHS OIG operation targeting these organizations is deeply concerning, but consistent with this administration's efforts targeting entities that don't align with Stephen Miller’s agenda.
I will push for oversight of these actions in Congress.
@supportkind.org, Ayuda, and the Amica Center provide legal services through a congressionally authorized and appropriated program that has long had bipartisan support.
On June 11, federal agents visited KIND’s DC headquarters without a warrant in an operation targeting legal service providers for unaccompanied children.

Muharram Mubarak to everyone celebrating! May this year bring you and your family peace and love!
For those of us who rely on the George Washington Memorial Parkway to commute, the reopening of the North section makes a big difference!
It's amazing to see the great work we can accomplish by coming together to invest in critical projects.

As the data centers that power AI continue to expand, we have a responsibility to understand its environmental impacts and develop solutions.
@markey.senate.gov and I introduced the AI Environmental Impacts Act to ensure we have better data and coordination to identify these risks.
Donald Trump called childcare and healthcare "little scams" that cost too much to fund, but is willing to spend $300m in taxpayer dollars for a ballroom to host his lavish parties.
When he said "I don't think about Americans' financial situation," he meant it.

Fourteen years ago today, the DACA program gave Dreamers the opportunity to build their lives in the only country many of them have ever called home.
House Democrats remain committed to fighting for permanent protections for Dreamers.
I asked Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano why poorly trained employees responded to suicidal callers by suggesting that suicide was “one option.”
Bisignano refused to take responsibility for his decisions that impaired the agency’s response to people in crisis.

The National Park Service is accepting public comments on President Trump’s proposed “Triumphal Arch.”
Curious what people thought, I started reading through the responses.
Here’s what they say:
This plan would require years of lane closures and major disruptions along one of our most critical transportation corridors. A traffic nightmare in the making.
Even setting aside the obvious illegality of this project, the public deserves a full accounting of its impacts.
