I’ll be thinking of the words of one of my mentors, Senator Barbara Mikulski, the first Democratic woman elected to the Senate in her own right and a leader in the fight to end the gender pay gap, who said, “I was the first, but I made sure I wasn't the only.”

From the Seneca Falls Convention to the suffragists of the 1920s to today, we celebrate and reflect on the critical role women have played throughout American history.
Happy Women’s History Month! March is a time to recognize not only the immense accomplishments and impact women have had on our country, but also the work ahead to bridge the gaps in gender equity. We’ve made significant progress thanks to the fearless leaders before us.
We cannot risk more American lives in undefined foreign conflicts, which is why Congress must pass the War Powers Resolution and reassert our Constitutional authority. At the very least, our men and women in uniform and their families deserve transparency, accountability, and answers.
A heartbreaking loss of four American servicemembers who gave their lives in service. I’ll be keeping their families in my prayers.
The President is now saying this conflict will last a month or more.
I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work our Boys & Girls clubs are doing for the kiddos in our communities, and I’m so glad I could take a moment to welcome them!
Thank you to Kenneth McCants-Pearsall and Tyrnita Moore, the CEO and Interim CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County, & Mark Piccirilli for coming to Washington to speak with my team about supporting the well-being & readiness of our youth in Anne Arundel & Howard Counties.
Another highlight from a chaotic week in Congress: welcoming some old and new faces to the office from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maryland!
This morning, Americans woke up once again to news of the United States entering another undefined foreign conflict that put the lives of even more servicemembers at risk. See below for my full statement.
I had the privilege of being part of this year's dinner with colleagues and friends, including my former State Senator John Astle and former Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman, for a lively evening in Annapolis. Until next year!
My six years serving in the Senate of Maryland shaped me into the legislator and representative I am today. As part of the longstanding and very special tradition, Maryland’s former Senators reconvene at the State House every year for the Society of Senates Past Dinner.

The best days on the job are the days we can help our neighbors in need. One of those neighbors, Robert from Woodbine, had issues with his Social Security benefits after a miscalculation. Our casework team was able to step in to ensure he received the hard-earned benefits he deserved.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act – which President Trump signed into law – clearly states that Attorney General Bondi and the DOJ must release the full files. He must comply.
A new report revealed that the Justice Department intentionally removed & withheld files containing allegations against President Trump from the Epstein files. The Justice Department should not be doing the bidding of any President, especially not at the expense of the people & the rule of law.
PS: Of course, I also took a moment to fangirl over meeting her and nerd out over Annapolis's critical role in our nation's history as we mark America's 250th birthday!
In her words: "One of the curses of history is that we cannot go back and change the course leading to disasters, no matter how much we might wish to. But it is never too late to change the future."
Especially after sitting through a chaotic, rambling, divisive State of the Union on Tuesday, I needed to hear her clear, cogent, sage advice to remember that during our country's most uncertain moments, we must all continue to lean in and stay engaged.
Like so many of you over this last difficult year, I’ve leaned on and taken inspiration from the lessons of history. And like so many of you, I’ve leaned on and taken inspiration from the writings of historian Heather Cox Richardson.
His repeated threats to nationalize our elections are reckless and illegal.
