Spending taxpayer dollars to incinerate 500 TONS of food assistance and nearly $10 million in contraceptives that were designated for vulnerable families is the definition of waste and inefficiency. It’s unacceptable—and why I joined @beyer.house.gov to call for an immediate investigation.
Trump’s State Department is spending $300K to incinerate 500 tons of emergency food aid and nearly $10M in contraceptives instead of distributing it to those in dire need, as intended. We're demanding an investigation to find out why. More here: beyer.house.gov/news/documen...
It was an honor to break ground with the City of Grandview on the $24M revitalization of Blue Ridge Blvd – the largest infrastructure investment in city history! I fought to secure $4.6M in federal funding for the project because Grandview families deserve safer streets & a thriving local economy.
If the president doesn’t like the recent economic numbers, he should take a look at the reckless policies being implemented under his watch—not fire the nonpartisan civil servants who are simply reporting facts. This is another dangerous step that will destabilize the economy.
BREAKING: President Trump fires the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics hours after weak jobs report.
Last month, following another funding freeze by the Trump administration, we were able to restore nearly $84 million in funding for public schools across Missouri. I’ll keep fighting to invest in education and lower costs for students and teachers alike. cleaver.house.gov/media-center...
It’s Back to School Month! Every student deserves a quality education, which is why I’m fighting back against Trump’s attacks on schools and the teachers who work tirelessly to educate the next generation.
As the president slashes funding for things American families depend on like healthcare, food assistance, education, and cancer research, he is spending hundreds of millions to build himself a new ballroom. It’s beyond shameful. apnews.com/article/whit...
As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens, it’s imperative that Secretary Rubio and the Trump administration do more to ensure life-saving supplies are getting to civilians. That’s why I joined @RepCasten in urging an immediate investigation into GHF and more aid for those in need.
NEWS: I led 92 House Democrats in demanding an investigation into the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation – a private, unqualified U.S.-linked aid organization at the center of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Instead of working to lower costs on housing, healthcare, and groceries, Republicans in Congress just passed a bill that rips healthcare away from 16 million Americans and food assistance away from millions more—all to fund more tax breaks for the wealthy. missouriindependent.com/2025/08/01/f...
Inflation is rising, the job market is deteriorating, and economic growth is slowing. Today’s jobs report, including the massive revisions from the previous two months, is a clear indicator that the president’s reckless trade war and chaotic policies are hurting American workers and families.
Payroll growth plunged to 73K in July, undershooting expectations. Revisions also slashed estimates for May and June, from 144K to 19K and 133K to 14K.
The Trump administration is now openly admitting their plan to privatize Social Security. Social Security is vital to the retirement and well-being of American seniors across the country—and we won’t stand for their effort to undermine the program!
Treasury Secretary Bessent on 'Trump Accounts': "It is a backdoor for privatizing Social Security....That's a game changer."
Rather than enacting bipartisan solutions to lower costs for families, Republicans in Congress just passed the most regressive legislation in history, transferring trillions in wealth from the working-class to the 1%. Relief for the rich but not for the people. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
Finally, I don't think people appreciate just how much re-inflation we've had. Last year core PCE inflation was 2.8%. It was forecasted to fall to 2.2% in the first half of this year, instead it was 3.0% (annual rate).
Because of the President’s tariff taxes, funding freezes, and general recklessness, America is seeing slower economic growth and higher inflation than we had last year. It’s about time Republicans in Congress worked with Democrats to provide real relief to families and small businesses!
In sum, in the first half of this year GDP was relatively weak (1.2%) and core inflation was relatively high (3.0%). This is not a catastrophic recession or inflation but it is a cause for serious concern--and a real quandary for the Fed.
Happy 60th birthday to Medicare and Medicaid! Millions of Americans rely on these critical lifelines to stay healthy. And while Republicans just enacted the largest cut to Medicaid in the program’s history, I’m committed to restoring funding & protecting access to health care for every American.
60 years ago today, Democrats and Republicans came together to change the course of American history by creating Medicare and Medicaid. Today, only Democrats are keeping the promise.
The administration’s effort to sweep housing discrimination and segregation under the rug is completely unacceptable. The attack on Fair Housing laws will only embolden such heinous behavior, ensuring minority families are left with fewer options, resources, and environmental protections.
Records obtained by ProPublica show the Trump administration is preparing to shut down seven major investigations of alleged housing discrimination and segregation, including some where HUD already found civil rights violations had occurred. By @jessecoburn.bsky.social
Thank you both for your support. Together, the people of Missouri will defeat this unconstitutional and divisive effort to rig the system and silence the voices of Western Missourians. In Missouri and America, the PEOPLE choose their representatives—not the other way around.
Missouri! Your state MIGHT be redistricting! As @repwesleybellmo.bsky.social of St. Louis explains—they could be coming for the beloved Rep. Cleaver’s seat in Kansas City to try to keep power in the House. That’s why it’s time to organize and mobilize to demand fair maps! #Episode5
Despite promises that he would go after criminals and gang members—which we can all support—the president’s mass deportation policies continue to overwhelmingly ensnare individuals who are here legally, are no threat, and doing important work for our communities. It must stop.
A Korean-born researcher and longtime U.S. legal permanent resident has spent the past week detained by immigration officials at the San Francisco International Airport without explanation and has been denied access to an attorney, according to his lawyer.
