Appreciate the opportunity to meet with members of the Indiana Farm Bureau and see the current crop conditions at Herr Farms in Lowell recently. Grateful for your dedicated contributions to the strength of our region’s agricultural economy.
With NIPSCO rates skyrocketing, I will never stop fighting to bring down energy costs and help families pay their bills so that seniors, veterans, and children can stay warm in the winter.
In April, the Administration fired the entire federal staff responsible for disbursing LIHEAP, leaving this vital program in the balance. For 15 years as a local elected official, I helped administer LIHEAP in Northwest Indiana, and I know firsthand the lifesaving support this program provides.
Today in the House Appropriations Committee markup, I reached across the aisle to urge the Trump Administration to restore full staffing for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a critical federal program that helps working Americans afford utility costs.
Why are the tax benefits for working families temporary, but handouts for billionaires and the privileged are permanent? Communities in Northwest Indiana are struggling with increasing costs and know it’s because the Republican so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” is unfair toward working families.
I grew up playing in Gibson Woods, & am proud that NWI is home to such incredible environmental wonders for residents & visitors. I applaud the leaders with Lake County Parks and Recreation for this initiative to enhance & improve access to Gibson Woods in Hammond. mrvan.house.gov/media/press-...
Spoke on the House floor yesterday regarding the rising costs of utility bills. The federal government should be building, not blocking projects that lower costs, strengthen our economy, and create American jobs.
We must recognize the essential contributions of all steelworkers, not only to the success of our steel industry, but to our communities, our economy, and our national security.
For generations, members of the United Steelworkers in Northwest Indiana have operated Gary Works, the largest integrated steel mill in North America, and they deserve a seat at the table where decisions about their livelihoods are being made.
On #LaborDay we remember the generations of union workers who fought for fair wages, safety, and dignity on the job. I will continue to stand with members of organized labor today and everyday in the fight for superior working conditions across our region. #Solidarity
𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝘆: Jake, a senior at EC Central High School with a 3.5 GPA, dreams of going to college to earn a Business degree. His Medicaid waiver provides the wraparound services he needs to succeed - services now at risk. I’m fighting for Jake, his healthcare, and his future.
Thank you to all residents who were able to join our Community Conversation in Portage earlier today. I’m grateful for this opportunity to hear from constituents, and I look forward to taking your concerns back to DC to fight for our region.
As we celebrate the 105th anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote, our fight for equality continues. From equal pay to reproductive rights, we must ensure that women have the right to make their own decisions about their bodies, futures, and economic opportunities.
On the 109th anniversary of the National Park Service, our region is grateful for the dedicated staff, resources, and opportunities provided by Indiana Dunes National Park, which continues to enrich our communities and strengthen our economy.
