As a former Social Security official put it: If you’re on the [DMF] you can’t have a bank account, you can’t get credit, so no apartment, no way to save money, no way to get paid, no way to get on insurance or carry health insurance. It has a ton of devastating effects.
According to a whistleblower, the SSA would have used its Death Master File to essentially erase people from the financial system, potentially cutting them off from wages, banking, government benefits and other services. What is the Death Master File?
ICYMI: The Trump administration tried to have nearly 3 million people - including American citizens and permanent residents - classified as dead through the Social Security Administration. 🧵 on how, why, and why it matters www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
Proud to visit with Rep María Salazar and @repescobar.bsky.social with Carlos and Angela Della Valle! Salazar and Escobar coauthored the Dignity Act, which provides a pathway for spouses of US citizens to stay together and other fixes to our broken immigration system. Thank you!
Congress has spoken. The House and the Senate have both voted on a war powers resolution to end the illegal, costly war that Trump and Netanyahu started in Iran. His terrible judgment has gotten American service members killed, created chaos and made the price of gas skyrocket. End the war now.
ICYMI: Trump is using money from National Park entrances for his vanity projects in DC. Instead of repairs and investments at some of our nation's treasures, we're getting tacky "beautification" projects being handed out in overpaid, no-bid contracts. www.washingtonpost.com/climate-envi...
I’m grateful organizations like the ACLU of Texas and the Texas Civil Rights Project are undertaking this just cause. As the lawsuit makes through our judicial system, I will continue to make my oversight visits and call for the permanent closure of Camp East Montana.
Instances of people impersonating immigration agents increased by at least SIX times the yearly average in 2025. I again renew my calls to pass the VISIBLE Act, that would be a small step toward improving credibility and public safety. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
I’m grateful to all the volunteers, lawyers, humanitarians and Americans who are fighting for a better world for everyone. May our efforts to help immigrants awaken compassion in others and encourage them to join the important work we are all doing.
My work wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the incredible team I am privileged to work with in El Paso and in Washington, D.C. Their dedication and passion to the work we do is equally inspiring.
Our country and our community were shaped by immigrants in search of a better life for themselves and their children. The work Annunciation House and countless other organizations do to fight for human dignity and justice is inspiring and a source of hope. This recognition is so meaningful to me.
I’m deeply honored to receive Annunciation House’s Voice of the Voiceless award. To be recognized by an outstanding organization that does such meaningful work for our community is incredibly humbling.
This Memorial Day, my heart is with the families of service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.    We owe it to our fallen to build a nation worthy of their sacrifice and uphold the values they fought for. Today & always, we honor their memory.
