Last night, I shared some exciting news on ABC7 Xtra: tomorrow, I'll be introducing my bipartisan immigration reform bill, the Dignity Act, in Congress.

Plus, the Department led by a Secretary best known for cosplaying that she’s in a war zone should perhaps not lecture anyone on publicity stunts.
I have every intention of continuing my oversight responsibilities and fighting back against the lawlessness of this administration every chance I get.
I would have preferred to quietly conduct my oversight responsibilities as I always have, but ICE chose not to follow the law.
These ‘guidelines’ are illegal, and that deserves public scrutiny.
ICE responded informing me and my staff about their new procedures - we informed them of the law.
On Tuesday morning, my staff notified ICE of my intention to conduct oversight at the Montana Ave facility the next day.
This is the process we have gone through innumerable times since I was elected, through both the Trump and Biden admins, including less than a month ago.
This week, ICE illegally denied me entry into a processing facility in my district, and today, they released a statement saying I “[gave] the appearance of a political stunt intended to generate publicity rather than pursue genuine oversight.”
I have some thoughts.🧵
The Trump administration’s continued efforts to hide federally funded facilities from oversight by breaking the law contradicts their lofty, empty promises of law, order, and transparency.
The law is straightforward, and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is not only blatantly breaking it herself, she is instructing local DHS staff to break it as well.
It’s in Section 527 of the FY2024 DHS Appropriations Act

Let me be clear: it is the law that no Member of Congress can be denied entry to facilities operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to conduct oversight.
For years, I have conducted oversight visits of these facilities in accordance with guidelines in the law, including last month when I toured the ICE soft-sided site in Northeast.

Recently, Amnesty International released a report detailing almost thirty pages of alleged human rights violations.

This facility has been plagued with accusations of mistreatment and inhumane conditions falling well within the scope of my Congressional oversight authority.
🚨 Today, after giving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 24 hours’ notice, more than is required by law, I was turned away from the ICE facility on Montana Ave. where I planned to conduct my constitutionally authorized oversight duties.

We need meaningful actions from our federal government to ensure we’re preventing further loss of life and fighting back against climate change with the seriousness it deserves.
Words and social media posts remain hollow as lives are lost and communities face costly reconstruction.
Republicans in Congress cannot simply offer thoughts and prayers.
Signs of the climate crisis are all around us, and our country’s attempts to face this existential crisis have fallen woefully short.
We cannot – and should not – normalize these catastrophes.
It’s also with the community of Ruidoso that only a year after devastating fires is now facing more tragedy.
We’ve seen the havoc wrecked by nature and the deadly consequences of climate change across the country, most recently in Kerr County and again in Ruidoso.
Two of the victims of last night’s catastrophic flash flooding in Ruidoso were the children of a service member stationed at Fort Bliss.
My heart is with them, their loved ones and the entire Fort Bliss family as they go through this incredibly difficult time.
By funding USAID for 18 cents per taxpayer per day, our country has singlehandedly saved 90 million lives around the world over the last two decades.
But now that Trump has shut USAID down? 14 million people could die from preventable deaths by 2030.
