Good. This is a major win in our fight against Trump's illegal actions to further demolish our already broken immigration system. The refugee program is an essential lawful pathway for those fleeing violence and authoritarianism around the world. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
Proud to join my @usprogressives.bsky.social colleagues this morning outside the Capitol with a simple message: It’s time to tax the greedy billionaires like Donald Trump and Elon Musk who are stealing from poor and working American families.
Trump is trying to scapegoat all undocumented immigrants as criminals who need to be deported. That’s simply not true. Our economy would collapse without the work of immigrants — some of whom have been here and waiting for a path to citizenship for decades.
Remember when Trump said he would end inflation and bring down costs on day one? It’s been over a month, but he and Republicans in Congress have done NOTHING to actually work on lowering prices for the American people. They’re too busy fear mongering about immigrants.
Let me be very clear: I absolutely refuse to vote for a budget that gives tax breaks to billionaires and cuts critical programs for working families — including health care and education. I will be a NO on the Republican budget resolution this week.
The energy at my townhall last week was amazing — people are fired up, pissed off by the Trump administration’s blatantly illegal acts, and ready to fight back to protect our democracy. We won’t sit out. We won’t back down. We aren’t going anywhere. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
Trump’s admin has been chaotic, confusing, and overwhelming — and that’s the point. They want to flood the zone so we can’t respond to every awful thing they do. But we won’t give in. We’ll keep fighting against their unconstitutional power grabs and for our democracy.
Want to go on a hike? You may not be able to anymore thanks to Trump purging federal workers. Aside from making our parks less accessible, this could mean job cuts for firefighters on public lands & loss of data on extreme weather. Ridiculous. www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...
Last week, House Republicans held an all-day budget markup on their top priority: making YOU pay for more than $4 trillion in tax breaks for the richest 1%. And in order to do that, they’re going to cut the programs that benefit America’s poor and working families.
People across Washington State will see the effects of the Trump admin’s attacks on federal workers and funding in their daily lives. National parks will have to close. Social Security checks will arrive late. Cancer research will be slowed. It’s devastating for EVERYONE.
Reminder: We’re less than three weeks away from a government shutdown. Yet instead of passing bills to keep the government open, Republicans are kowtowing to Trump’s unconstitutional actions and pushing a budget that is just one giant tax cut for the richest of the rich.
On this day in 1956, Rosa Parks and other civil rights activists were unjustly arrested for organizing the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Today, decades later, we continue to honor and recognize the strength of these brave organizers who helped pave the way for the civil rights movement.
This is such a beautiful way to turn the fear of this moment into something positive for Seattle’s LGBTQIA+ community. I am so glad to live in a community that comes together during times of hardship – and also just what a cool place to get married! www.kuow.org/stories/roma...
Trump is hurting our public safety and national security. He’s pulling federal law enforcement away from the important work of combatting things like drug smuggling and human trafficking — instead having them go after immigrants who pose no threat to public safety.
Today would have been my friend John Lewis' birthday. He often said, “Never stop fighting. When you see something wrong, you have to call it out. Never give up, and never give in.” In his honor, we must promise to continue fighting for justice — today and every day.
I was proud to join @uaw4121.bsky.social's Hands Off Our Healthcare, Research & Jobs rally on Wednesday. Trump’s attempt to cut NIH funding is an authoritarian power grab that will halt lifesaving research. We won’t allow it. We'll fight back every step of the way. mynorthwest.com/mynorthwest-...
ICYMI: I’m leading a constitutional amendment to undo Citizens United. After an election where a billionaire bought a seat as Shadow President, we must ensure our democracy is truly of, by, and for the people — not corporations and billionaire donors. truthout.org/articles/jay...
Trump is literally fighting to let banks charge you higher overdraft fees. Democrats put a $5 cap on overdraft fees last year. Republicans, at Trump’s request, just introduced legislation to overturn that cap. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
The chaos and cruelty of the Trump administration are carefully designed tools. He’s trying to turn us against each other to distract from the fact that Republicans are enriching the wealthiest billionaires and biggest corporations at our expense. But we won’t look away.
