The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is America’s first and finest public shipyard. I was honored to join the Change of Command Ceremony to thank outgoing Captain Michael Oberdorf and to welcome Captain Jesse Nice as he begins his tenure as the 88th Commander of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Senator Alex Padilla was doing his job — asking questions for the millions of people he represents. Instead of getting answers, he was met with force, pushed to the ground, and handcuffed. This is shocking. It is not right. It is not America.
A complete Pentagon budget is essential for the responsible use of your taxpayer dollars. Pete Hegseth was required by law to submit the budget of the Department of Defense to Congress back in February. He failed to do that. And today he refused to answer when he’ll comply with the law.
Tonight, I voted against legislation that would devastate public broadcasting. For 60+ years, Congress has supported 1,500+ locally operated public TV & radio stations, including NHPR & NH PBS. Their programming helps kids thrive in school & keeps rural communities informed in emergencies.
President Trump agreed to a ceasefire with the Houthis, a foreign terrorist organization. He said his deal would restore commercial shipping in the Red Sea. But as I heard from military leaders, that hasn’t happened—shipping remains a no-go in the Red Sea & the American people are paying the price.
This week, I spent time with Granite Staters with Alzheimer's Impact Movement and heard about the heartbreak and challenges that thousands of patients, caregivers, and families across New Hampshire battling Alzheimer’s and dementia face every single day.
Art is an unmatched avenue of expression for students across NH—that’s what the Congressional Art Competition is all about. And in times like these, art is essential to democracy. I welcomed our 2025 winner for NH-02, Elizabeth Chung, a junior at Nashua High School South, to our Washington office.

America is the land of the free because we are home to generations of brave veterans. We have a sacred obligation to fight for these patriots in the face of the Trump Admin’s cuts to critical services. Veterans deserve fighters in Congress—I'm proud to help launch the Democratic Veterans Caucus.
Domestic military deployments are rare because it's the job of law enforcement officers—not our Armed Forces—to enforce laws. For good reason, in a democracy that depends on public trust. President Trump’s National Guard deployment over the objections of a Governor is a deeply concerning escalation.
Hydropower is at the heart of lowering energy costs & making NH a leader in our clean energy future. Had a productive conversation at Essex Hydro Associates with clean energy leaders—including Granite State Hydropower Association—about how we can expand access to affordable, reliable clean energy.
